Final statistics

GREENSBURG, Pa. --
Slippery Rock University got "double-double" efforts from three of its starting players Saturday afternoon but those weren't enough as hosting Seton Hill University (2-4) handed SRU a 72-58 setback in non-conference men's basketball action.

Junior Devin Taylor scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while seniors Jabril Bailey and Maron Brown each added 13 points and 12 rebounds for SRU (4-3), which saw a four-game win streak come to an end.

Those point totals proved to be the only ones scored by a member of The Rock starting lineup.

As a team, The Rock shot 30.6% (22-72) from the field, 25% (4-16) from 3-point range and 62.5% (10-18) from the foul line.

Seton Hill, meanwhile, shot 40% (24-60) from the field, 29.4% (5-17) from beyond the arc and a hot 82% (19-23) from the charity stripe.

SRU won the rebounding battle by a 54-37 margin and outscored the Griffins by a 34-22 margin "in the paint" and 20-16 on second-chance points, but was on the high end of a 15-7 turnover margin.

The Rock scored the first five points of the game before Seton Hill clawed back to tie the score at 12-12 with 13:50 left in the first half. The hosts then took their first lead of the game, 16-15, with 12:15 left and remained in the lead until Taylor nailed a 3-pointer with 0:45 left before halftime to give The Rock a 36-35 lead at the intermission.

Seton Hill scored the first four points in the second half and never trailed thereafter, although The Rock did knot the score at 39-39 and 43-43 (12:30 left to play). The hosts then outscored SRU by a 27-10 margin in the next 11 minutes to take the largest lead of the game, a 17-point (70-53) with 1:15 left.

Saturday's loss came at the end of a traumatic week for The Rock, who suffered back-to-back emotional setbacks with the deaths of junior manager Leo King and Maron Brown's father on back-to-back days. King was also the younger brother of Rock assistant coach Jareem Dowling.

The Rock is idle until Dec. 19, when they travel to Penn State Wilkes-Barre. That will be the final game of a five-game road trip for the Green and White.

The next Rock home game will be Dec. 29 vs. Ohio University Eastern. The following night, SRU hosts neighboring Grove City College.
