LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University junior forward
Danielle Smith was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division Women's Basketball Player of the Week Monday in a release from the league office.
Smith is the first SRU player to earn a PSAC weekly honor this season. She earns the honor after posting two impressive performances last week and leading The Rock to its first win of the season.
Slippery Rock finished the week with a 1-1 record, including a road loss at Pitt-Johnstown and a home win over Notre Dame College (Ohio) last Saturday. Saturday's win snapped a six-game losing streak for SRU and an eight-game winning streak for the Falcons.
For the week, Smith scored 36 points, pulled down 22 rebounds and recorded six steals.
Her most impressive performance came in The Rock's 67-64 win over Notre Dame, when she recorded her first collegiate double-double with game-highs of 17 points and 13 rebounds. She also had one block and five steals in that game.
In a 65-50 loss at Pitt-Johnstown last Wednesday, Smith registered game-highs of 19 points and nine rebounds.
The LaGrange, Ga. native is leading Slippery Rock in scoring and rebounding through the first seven games of the season, posting per game averages of 12.1 points and 8.0 rebounds.
The Rock will break for the holidays before returning to action Dec. 30 at Seton Hill.
