LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University senior forward
Maron Brown was named Monday as the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division men's basketball "Athlete of the Week."
The weekly honor was the second earned this winter by the 6-foot-5, 205-pound Salisbury, Md. native. He was also honored on November 29, 2010.
The latest honor came as a result of Brown averaging 20 points and 11.5 rebounds per game in two contests last week to lead The Rock to back-to-back PSAC crossover wins over Bloomsburg and Mansfield.
Brown, a product of both Wicomico High School and Cecil (Md.) College, shot 50% (15-of-30) from the field, 50% (1-of-2) from 3-point range and 82% (9-of-11) from the foul line in the two games. He recorded a "double-double" in each game with 24 points, 12 rebounds vs. Bloomsburg and 16 points, 11 rebounds vs. Mansfield.
The double-doubles were his team-best ninth and 10th of the season and improved his three-year Rock career total to a school-record 36.
Brown currently leads the PSAC in rebounding with an 11.1 per game average and is also The Rock's leading scorer with a 16.7 points per game average.
Behind his lead, The Rock have won three straight games and take a 10-4 record into Wednesday's PSAC-West opener against Clarion (9-2) in Morrow Field House. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
