Rock falls at Indiana (Pa.), 71-40

Indiana (Pa.) proved to be too much for Slippery Rock Saturday as the Crimson Hawks posted a 71-40 win over The Rock in PSAC-West action.

INDIANA (Pa.) – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team dropped its second straight Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division game, 71-40, Saturday evening at Indiana (Pa.).

The Rock falls to 2-12 overall and 0-2 in the PSAC-West, while Indiana improves to 10-4 overall and 2-0 in league play.

Saturday night's matchup was close through the first 10 minutes, with the hosts holding a three-point lead at 10-7 with 10:13 to play in the opening half. Indiana then put together a 14-2 run to break open a 24-9 lead with 5:50 to play before the intermission.

The Crimson Hawks pushed the lead to 44-23 at halftime and never looked back, not allowing SRU to cut the deficit to any less than 19 points and holding The Rock off the scoresheet for the final 3:18 of the game.

Danielle Smith was the lone Slippery Rock player to reach double figures, finishing with 11 points. Emilee Vitez added eight points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

Alex Beatty scored seven points, while Bethany Caudill added five and Shannon Lee chipped in four points.

The Rock finished the game shooting 30.4 percent from the field, connecting on 14-of-46 attempts, including just 2-of-15 from behind the 3-point arc. Slippery Rock was 10-of-13 at the free throw line.

Indiana forced 24 turnovers while giving the ball up just 12 times and turned that edge into an 18-8 advantage in points off turnovers.

Three players finished in double figures for IUP, led by Eryn Withers with a game-high 17 points. Sarah Pastorek added 12 points and Katelyn Marshall chipped in 10.

The Crimson Hawks hit 26-of-57 shots from the field (45.6%), including 9-of-22 from behind the 3-point arc. The hosts converted on 10-of-11 attempts from the charity stripe.

Slippery Rock will remain on the road for its next divisional game, a Wednesday evening showdown at Lock Haven. Tip has been set for 6 p.m.
