Rock rolls through Lock Haven, 82-50

SRU (12-5, 2-1) shot 58% from the field in the first 20 minutes of action en route to a 48-22 halftime advantage and never looked back en route to its 12th win in the last 15 games

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team shot a scorching 57.6% from the field in the first half of action Wednesday night and cruised home from there with an easy 82-50 win over hosting Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.

The win was SRU's 12th in the last 15 games and improved the Green and White's season record to 12-5 and its PSAC-West mark to 2-1, which is good for sole possession of third place in the division standings.

Lock Haven suffered its eighth straight loss and saw its season records fall to 1-13 overall, 0-3 in PSAC-West action.

The Rock returns to the court at 3 p.m. Saturday, when they will take on PSAC-West co-leader Mercyhurst (12-3, 3-0).

Senior forward Maron Brown scored a team-high 12 points Wednesday night for SRU, while senior forward Jade Burka added 11 points and six rebounds and junior guard John Bayardelle chipped in 10 points. Junior guard Devin Taylor grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Jeff Everett scored a game-high 15 points for Lock Haven.

SRU made 19 of 33 shots from the field in the opening 20 minutes of action and enjoyed a 48-22 advantage at halftime.

The guests' second-half shooting effort was a stark contrast and drastic dropoff from its opening-stanza effort as the Green and White made only 33% (10-30) of its shots in the final 20 minutes.

The Rock finished the game with a 46% efficiency from the field, an icy 21.4% (3-14) reading from 3-point range and a respectable 77.8% (21-27) effort from the foul line.

Lock Haven had a consistently-frigid shooting effort throughout the game as the Bald Eagles made 25% (7-28) of their shots in the first half and 25.9% (7-27) of their attempts in the final half to finish with a 25.5% reading.

The hosts actually shot a better percentage from 3-point range (10-of-35, 28.6%) than overall from the field and made 70.6% (12-17) of their free throws.
