PITTSBURG, Kan. – Slippery Rock University football standouts Brandon Fusco and Akeem Satterfield were named to the Don Hansen Football Gazette All-America team Monday. Fusco was also featured in The Sporting News Monday.

Fusco was named to Football Gazette first team All-America honors at center, while Satterfield was named to second team honors at running back.

The Sporting News highlighted Fusco in a section noting some of the top story lines heading into the week of the Under Armour Senior Bowl (see link above).

Fusco, a 6-foot-5, 302-pound native of Cranberry Township and graduate of Seneca Valley High School, has collected a truckload of postseason honors. Included in his collection are the 2010 Gene Upshaw Division II Lineman of the Year and Dave Rimington Award presented to the top Division II center in the nation, as well as Associated Press Little All-America and first-team American Football Coaches Association and Daktronics All-America honors.

A first-team All-PSAC-West selection each of the last three seasons, Fusco earned 2010 first-team Preseason All-America honors from The Sporting News, Consensus Draft Services, D2Football.com and D2PRODAY.com.

Fusco will be the first Rock player ever to participate in the NFL Scouting Combine (Feb. 23 through March 1 in Indianapolis) and the Under Armour Senior Bown (Jan. 29). He also earned invitations to participate in the Cactus Bowl, East/West Shrine and NFLPA postseason all-star games.

As of January 1, 2011, Fusco was ranked fifth among draft-eligible centers by cbssports.com and the only Division II player ranked in the top five draft prospects at any position. He was projected by cbssports.com to be a fifth- or sixth-round NFL draft pick.

To prepare for the NFL Combine, Fusco began training in early December at the IMG Performance Institute in Bradenton, Fla.

This week, Fusco is in Mobile, Ala. preparing for the Under Armour Senior Bowl. Rock sports information director Bob McComas is in Mobile and will chronicle the week in a series of blog posts at www.RockAthletics.com (see link above).

Satterfield was the PSAC's leading scorer with 20 touchdowns in 10 games and No. 2 rusher (135.2 yards per game) this fall. A native of Erie, Pa. and graduate of Cathedral Prep High School, he ranked second among NCAA Division II student-athletes in scoring and was ranked fifth in rushing.

Satterfield's TD total was the second highest in school history, while his 1,352 rushing yards in the fifth highest by a Rock runner. He also ranks 16th on SRU's career scoring list with 144 points in two collegiate campaigns.
