On a weekend that featured 11 US top ten performances from PA athletes and relays, Strath Haven's phenomenal 4x800 meter relay performance at the New Balance Games stood out above the rest. Strath Haven ran a US#1 time of 9:18.15, which is four seconds better than the rest of the country. With 5 weeks left before states, the state meet record of 9:11.48 by Hatboro Horsham and the all time state record of 9:08.69 by William Penn are possiblities for this group. Taylor Morgan of Upper Dublin joined Anne Holland of Pennridge and five others atop the national high jump leaderboard with her 5-8 clearance in New York. The girls 800 meter run at states is starting to shape up into a potential classic. Two time defending champion Chloe Schmidt has come back better than ever from her fall injury and ran 2:14.39 at the Kevin Dare Invitational. That was US#3 until Penn Charter's Elyse Wilkinson ran a US#2 time of 2:12.53 at the Colgate Games semi finals. Wilkinson was the silver medalist in 2008 behind Chanelle Price. Abington and Upper Darby were big in the sprint relays, with both schools going 1-2 in PA in the 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays. Both also have US#3 relays (Upper Darby 4x2, Abington 4x4). To give you an idea on how big the sprint relays were this weekend, nine of the top ten 4x400 times and eight of the top ten 4x200 times in PA were run this weekend! Finally, PA had their first two 12 foot pole vaulters of the season. Monica Pechanec of Notre Dame Green Pond cleared 12-3 (US#3) and Larissa Debich of Hempfield (7) cleared 12-1 (US#6).
