Edinboro downs Rock, 77-38

EDINBORO, Pa. – Edinboro University ran out to a 42-15 halftime lead and cruised to a 77-38 win over Slippery Rock in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division game Saturday afternoon.

The Rock (2-16, 0-6) produced its lowest scoring total of the season, failing to reach 40 points for the first time. Edinboro improved to 15-3 overall and 5-1 in division play with the win.

Danielle Smith was one of the lone bright spots for Slippery Rock, finishing the game with nearly half of the team's total offensive output. She scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Emilee Vitez scored just two points but was impressive in all other facets of the game, pulling down eight rebounds, blocking four shots and recording two steals. Shannon Lee added five points and seven assists.

The Rock shot 30.2 percent from the field, connecting on 16-of-53 attempts, including 2-of-8 from behind the 3-point arc. SRU was 4-of-8 from the free throw line.

Edinboro placed five players in double figures and had 10 players tally points on the score sheet. The hosts finished the game with advantages of 43-32 in total rebounds, 38-7 in bench points, 22-2 in points off turnovers and 12-20 in turnovers.

The Fighting Scots shot 46.0 percent from the field, hitting 29-of-63 attempts, including 11-of-24 from 3-point land. Edinboro was 8-of-13 at the charity stripe.

Morgyn Patterson led the team with 13 points and seven rebounds. Samantha Blazetic added 11 points and nine rebounds, while Hope Mancini also scored 11 points. Laurel Lindsay and Darche' Jackson capped the double-figure scorers with 10 points each.

Slippery Rock held a 3-2 lead after the first two minutes before Edinboro took over and ran out to an insurmountable advantage through the rest of the first half.

The Rock has now dropped eight consecutive PSAC-West games dating back to the final two divisional games of the 2009-10 season. SRU has failed to score 50 points in any PSAC-West game so far this season.

Slippery Rock will continue to look for its first divisional win when Gannon visits Morrow Field House Wednesday, Feb. 2. Tip is set for 6 p.m.
