GENEVA, Ohio – Chris Warning broke his own Slippery Rock record in the weight throw as the Slippery Rock University men's indoor track and field team posted nine top-10 finishes at the GaREAT Collegiate Open on Saturday.

Warning would break his own record with a toss of 17.99 meters, which also clinched second place in the weight throw on Saturday. Warning, who also highlighted The Rock's shot put contingent with a throw of 14.03 meters to place 13th, had previously set the SRU record with a throwing distance of 17.50 meters at the Golden Flash Gala in December.

Slippery Rock continued its strong showing in field events with four more top-10 finishes by Rock athletes in the triple jump, high jump and pole vault.

Terrece Draper finished second in the triple jump with a mark of 13.91 meters, which was a 0.15 meter-improvement over his Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-qualifying jump of 13.76 meters at last month's Golden Flash Gala. Shawn Vanderbrook also competed in the triple jump for SRU, finishing in 14th place with a jump of 12.60 meters. Vanderbrook edged Draper in the long jump competition with a 12th-place finish thanks to a jump of 6.12 meters as Draper placed 14th at 6.05 meters.

In just his second meet as a Slippery Rock athlete, Derick Fiedler was able to claim sixth place in the high jump with a distance of 1.85 meters while Cameron Daugherty and Dave Caldwell followed suit in the pole vault with finishes of seventh and 10th respectively.

Kris Stalma led SRU's runners with a seventh-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles. Stalma had a time of 8.44 in the prelims and a time of 8.55 in the finals; both times were good enough to meet the PSAC-qualifying standard. Dan Hedglin joined Stalma in the top-10 in the 60-meter hurdles by finishing in ninth place (9.06). Trevor Foley also qualified for the PSAC Championships after a time of 8.95 in the prelims.

The 4x400-meter relay team of Hedglin, Mason McLaughlin, Ethan Geisler and Jason Jamieson finished in fourth place with a time of 3:23.90.

Kevin Jewel improved on his PSAC qualifying time in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:57.14, which was good enough for a ninth-place showing. Jamieson also had a strong showing and placed 11th.

A pair of Rock athletes became PSAC qualifiers in the 5000-meter run, which was held on Friday night. Travis Arrigoni had a time of 15:32.35 and Eric Geddis ran the race in 15:37.01 for finishes of 17th and 21st respectively.

Slippery Rock will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Mount Union Invitational in Alliance, Ohio.
