Record-Breaking Run Results in Weekly Honors

MEADVILLE, Pa. – On Saturday, the Gators' distance medley relay sacked the season's first NCAA qualifying mark while establishing a new open record in the North Coast Athletic Conference. Two days later, Allegheny was rewarded for the accomplishment by being tabbed the NCAC Men's Distance Athletes of the Week.
The Gators broke their own record en route to a final time of 10:08.66. Senior Jeramie Parker opened the record-breaking run with a 1200-meter clip of 3:07. After the first exchange, Tayor Throckmorton split 50.5 for the quarter before passing the stick to Andrew Mahone, who covered 800 meters in 1:57.8. With victory clearly in hand, senior Tony Dipre hammered out a 4:12 mile to anchor the finish.
The distance medley relay has aspirations to eclipse the NCAA Division III national record, which was set by Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 2009 with a time of 9:56.79. Last season, Allegheny ran 10:18.76 to win the NCAC title while this past weekend's result would have place eighth at last year's NCAA Championships.
