Men's Track and Field

School Records Fall At Widener

COMPLETE RESULTS

Chester, Pa. (Feb. 4, 2011)
- The Alvernia Track and Field team's throwers were in action on Friday night at Widener University's indoor invitational and had a banner night.  All four student athletes competing were able to set new bests and both the Men's and Women's Weight Throw records were broken in the process.

Senior Alex Stengel (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove) led the way, competing against a very tough field, including several Division 1 athletes, last year's MAC champion and the current conference leader.  Stengel was able to improve on her lifetime best by over six feet with a throw of 10.86m.  Her toss was good enough for ninth place overall, breaking the school record by over a foot and half and currently ranks her seventh in the MAC.

Freshman Amanda Searle (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) and Jazmyn Vega (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) were the other female throwers competing.  Both set new lifetime best marks, with Searle hitting the MAC qualifying mark and Vega narrowly missing.

On the men's side, freshman Dillon Emery (Locustdale, Pa./North Schuylkill) was the lone member of the men's team in action on Friday.  Emery was able to improve his lifetime best throw and school record by just under four feet.

The throwers will look to build on this momentum as the end of the indoor season and the MAC championship closes in with two meets again next week.  The teams will be competing on Thursday at Ursinus and Saturday at Albright.
