COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Just one week after
Danisha Higgs broke the program record in the 55 meter dash, the freshman sprinter did it again, this time cutting four seconds off of her original record setting time. Joining Higgs with his own record setting performance was sophomore thrower
Dane Canonico, who set the indoor record in the shot put Friday afternoon at the Collegeville Indoor Classic.
Higgs' new record setting time was marked at 7.49 seconds and earned her a third place finish in the event. Canonico's record throw dropped in at 45-09.00 feet, which broke the original record by 8.75 inches. It also earned him a fifth place finish in the event.
Both teams closed out Friday's meet in fifth place out of 14 teams that competed both in the men's and women's events. Higgs' also earned a first place finish in the 200 meter dash with her time of 26.79 seconds.
Also competing in the 55 was
Taylor Kutz who finished in 14th place with her time of 7.85 seconds, and Adeola Olaoluwa who placed 29th overall with her time of 8.36 seconds. In the 200
Meghan Loos finished in 15th place with a time of 28.91 seconds. Right behind her in 16th place was
Krystal Swasey with a time of 29.04 seconds.
Candace Messner posted a 34th place finish in the 200 with her time of 31.64 seconds.
The 800 meter run saw
Caroline Vazzana earn a 17th place finish with her time of 2:42.28. Distance runners
Gabby Stine (6:14.04) and
Lauren Centafont (6:26.96) finish in the 13th and 16th place respectively in the mile run.
In the even longer 3,000 meter run,
Kim Hummel recorded a seventh place with her time of 11:59.90.
Mackenzie Miller earned a 14th place in the 55 meter hurdles with her time of 9.72 seconds. Miller also placed 10th in the long jump (14-08.50) and 12th in the high jump (4-06.00).
On the men's side
Sean Potter earned the Lions top time in the 55 meter dash with a ninth place finish (6.84).
Clark Runciman finished in 37th place in the even with a time of 7.36 seconds, with
Chris Grove right behind him in 40th place with his time of 742 seconds. Freshman
Tyreek Spaide closed out the event for the men's team with a time of 7.96 seconds to earn a 46th place finish.
Anthony Glass earned a top-10 time in the 200 meter dash with his time of 24.23 seconds. Potter was just a half second behind him to take 13th place (24.73), while Grove finished in 19th place with a time of 25.44 seconds.
As the lone competitor in the 400 meter dash Glass placed ninth with a time of 54.67 second.
Sam Marcotte earned a 36th place in the 800 meter run with his time of 2:19.06. Distance runner
Bob Kellert took 16th place in the 3,000 meter run with a final time of 9:58.02.
Other top-10 finishers in Friday's meet were
Oshane Rennie in the 55 meter dash (8.34/6th),
Justin Gewirtz in the high jump (6-02.00/3rd), and Runciman in the pole vault (12-11.50/2nd).
The shot put event also saw Steffen Gonzalez place sixth with his throw of 42-11.75 feet, while
Robert Baldwin (36-00.25) and
Mike Schwartz (34-07.50) finished in 19th and 23rd place respectively.
Track and field returns to action next Friday when they compete at the Muhlenberg College Invitational.
