Collegeville, Pa. (Feb.10, 2011) - On Thursday night the Crusader Track and Field team traveled to Ursinus College for the first Ursinus College Open. The mid week meet proved to be full of great performances from the men and women on the team.
Leading the way was the quartet of
Jessica Weiss (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts),
Stephanie Coleman (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove), Chynelle Washington# and
Erin Stone (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs), finishing third in the 4x200m relay while establishing a new school record in the process. Coleman also finished third in the 55m hurdles; breaking the school record that she already held.
One other school record was reset on Thursday as Weiss, broke her own school record in the 55m dash, crossing the line in seventh place. Two other sprinters, Washington and
Codi-Amanda Herr (East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield), also placed in the top ten in the 55m Dash, placing ninth and tenth respectively.
Not to be outdone, the throwers also placed three in the top ten in the shot put competition.
Amanda Searle (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearvire Regional) led the way with her second place finish, followed by
Jazmyn Vega (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) in seventh and
Katie Wimberg (Galloway, NJ/Sacred Heart) in ninth.
On the men's side, the only Crusaders in action were throwers
Dillon Emery (Locustdale, Pa./North Schuylkill) and
Will Gerber (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley). Gerber continued on his recent string of improvements by besting his previous personal record in the shot put by over a foot. His best throw of the competition had him just outside of the top ten.
Other Crusaders setting new personal bests included Herr, Weiss, and Taylor Wildermuth in the 200m dash and Ciesla in both the 55m and 200m dashes.
The track and field teams return to action across town on Saturday as they head to the Albright Invitational. The action begins with the field events starting at 10am and the track events starting at 11am.
