Meet Results
READING, Pa. – Even though it happens only once a year, the Albright track and field teams make the most of their annual home meet as both squads ran and threw way to first place finishes Saturday afternoon in the John Scholl Life Sports Center. Both teams combined for 179 points to defeat a field of nine other men's teams and seven other women's teams.
Walking away with first place finishes in Saturday's meet for the men's team was
Dane Canonico in the men's weight throw (43-04.25),
Clark Runciman in the pole vault (12-11.75),
Justin Gewirtz (6-04.75) in the high jump,
Oshane Rennie in the 55 meter hurdles (8.44),
Sean Potter in the 55 meter dash (6.87),
Bob Kellert in the 3,000 meter run (10:10.67),
Anthony Glass (55.62) in the 400 meter dash,
Sean Potter in the 200 meter dash (24.40), and
Sam Marcotte in the mile (5:01.20).
The women's top finishers were
Mackenzie Miller in both high jump (4-05.00) and the triple jump (32-11.25).
Danisha Higgs in the 55 (7.49) and 200 (27.68) meter dashes,
Krystal Swasey in the 400 meter dash (1:05.34), and
Caroline Vazzana in the 800 meter run (2:43.07).
To start off the afternoon,
Lindsay Boyd and
Christine Pallas finished in eight and ninth place respectively in the women's weight throw. Boyd recorded a distance of 32-03.50, while Pallas finished the event with a throw of 27-07.25. Their male counterparts were led by Canonico's first place throw. Finishing in sixth place was senior
Andrew Hettinger with his throw of 37-05.75.
Right behind him was
Robert Baldwin who recorded a toss of 36-00.75. Bruce Smith-Chant finished in 10th place (33-04.50), followed by Steffen Gonzalez in 11th (32-10.50) and Michael Schwartz in 14th (29-05.25).
Boyd and Pallas returned to the throwing cage for the shot put event, in which the duo finished in 7th and 8th place respectively. Pallas' throw of 29-04.50 led the Lady Lions, while Boyd's throw was marked at 29-00.50. Joining the throwers was Miller who finished in 10th place with her throw of 26-05.25.
For the men's shot put event, Canonico led the Lions with a second place toss of 45-03.75. Gonzalez placed fourth with his throw of 41-08.75. Hettinger finished in 11th (36-03.50), followed by Schwartz in 18th (33-00.25).
The women's pole vault saw seniors
Meghan Loos and Miller give it a try, as both competitors placed third with vaults of 5-00.25. Competing alongside Runciman in the men's pole vault was
Clayton Courter who finished in fourth place with a height of 10-06.00.
Nicholas Hultz and Runciman followed Gewirtz in the high jump as they finished in third and fifth place respectively. Hultz topped out at 5-08.75, while Runciman finished with a leap of 5-03.00.
Miller added another top-3 finish to her resume on Saturday as she took second in long jump (14-01.75), followed by Adey Olaoluwa in fourth (11-03.00). The men's long jump, had Runciman leading the Lions with a second place finish and a leap of 18-09.75. Alton Richardson finished in sixth (17-01.25), and Hultz in seventh (17-00.50).
The triple jump was all Albright, as Miller placed first, with Vazzana behind her in second (26-08.25), and Loos in third (26-07.75). Runciman and Hultz finished in fourth and fifth place in the men's triple jump with distances of 37-05.75 and 26-02.25 respectively.
Miller and
Danielle DiPietro finished in second and third place in the women's 55 meter hurdles, while Rennie earned the lone Lions finish in the men's 55 hurdles. Higgs and
Taylor Kutz qualified for the finals in the women's 55 meter dash with times of 7.65 and 7.87 seconds. In the finals, Higgs recorded a time of 7.49 seconds, with Kutz placing second with a time of 7.92 seconds.
Potter and Rennie earned the top-2 finishes in the men's 55 meter dash with their times of 6.87 seconds and 6.91 seconds. Loos and DiPietro went on to finish in second and third place in the women's 400 meter dash, while Gewirtz recorded a third place finish following, Glass' first place time of 55.62.
Lauren Centafont crossed the finish line in fifth place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:55.47.
George Cook took third in the men's 800 with his time of 2:13.75. The women's 200 meter was also dominated by the Lady Lions. After Higgs' first place time of 27.68, Kutz finished in second with a time of 28.39.
Shannon Loos tallied a third place finish (29.09), followed by
Candace Messner in ninth (31.13), Swasey in 10th (31.52), and Olaoluwa in 11th (33.33).
After Potter in the men's 200 meter dash it was Rennie in second with his time of 24.71. Glass finished in fourth place with a time of 25.02. Richardson and Grove recorded times of 25.72 and 26.30 to finish in seventh and ninth place respectively.
Tyreek Spaide closed out the event in 13th place with a time of 28.45.
Gabby Stine was the lone competitor in the women's mile as she crossed the finish line in second with a time of 6:24.83. Marcotte's first place finish in the men's mile ended Saturday's meet for the red and white.
Track and field returns to action next Saturday when they take part in the Dickinson College DuCharme Invitational.
