Throwers Lead The Way At Albright

Freshman Amanda Searle Places Won The Shot Put

Reading, Pa. (Sat. Feb. 12, 2011) - The Crusader track and field teams were back at it Saturday, for the second time in three days.  This time at the Albright Invitational where the men and women put forth some impressive efforts as they head toward the MAC Championship meet.

The throwers led the way in the effort with Amanda Searle (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) winning the shot put and Katie Wimberg (Galloway, NJ/Sacred Heart) placing third overall in the weight throw, first among Division III competitors.  Jazmyn Vega (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) and Wimberg also placed fourth and fifth in the shot put, while Alex Stengel (Avondale, Pa./Avon Grove) and Searle placed fourth and fifth in the weight throw among Division III competitors.

The Crusaders also had some great performances on the track.  Stephanie Coleman (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) continued running well in the hurdles, winning the event on Saturday, and Erin Stone (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) broke the school record and lowered her MAC qualifying mark in the 400m dash.  Coleman and Stone also teamed up with Codi-Amanda Herr (East Petersburg, Pa./Hempfield) and Jessica Weiss (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) to win the 4x400m relay.  The quartet won the meet by over 30 seconds, establishing a school record with the effort.

Chynelle Washington placed fifth and seventh in the 55m and 200m dashes, setting new personal bests in the process. Weiss and Herr also placed sixth and seventh in the 55m dash, with Herr running a new personal best.

On the mens side, Colin Donovan (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) placed fourth in the 3000m run and Dillon Emery (Locustdale, Pa./North Schuylkill) placed ninthin the weight throw, breaking his own school record with his effort.  Will Gerber (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) continued on his string of recent personal bests, improving by over a foot in both the shot put and the weight throw.

Saturday marks the last chance to qualify for the MAC Championship meet. The Crusaders will be at Dickinson College at the DuCharme Invitational for their final meet preparation of the indoor season.
