Bryan Beegle and junior
Stephen Schelander received All-Academic certification for cross country on Wednesday afternoon by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Both men were integral to Shippensburg's seventh-place finish at the 2010 NCAA Championships.
Beegle is a criminal justice major who boasts a 3.786 cumulative grade-point average. He was the last of Shippensburg's scoring runners in 2010 - finishing 67th with a time of 32:06.5. Beegle finished 73rd in 2009. He capped off a dazzling cross country career this season with the Raiders.
Schelander is an economics major with a 3.777 cumulative grade-point average. He was the team's No. 2 runner this year at nationals with a 50th-place finish in 31:53.6. It was a 69-second improvement from his time at Southern Indiana in 2009, where he was SU's No. 1 runner.
Shippensburg was also recognized as an All-Academic team. A total of 68 institutions represent 19 conferences that compose the group. The PSAC led all conferences with 10 members earning All-Academic honors and was followed by the GLIAC which had six listed.
