Women’s Track and Field Gears Up for Postseason

Complete Results

KENT, Ohio –
Allegheny women's track and field capped the regular portion of its indoor slate with a solid, if unmemorable, day of activity at the Kent State Tune-Up on Saturday. The Gators, who were looking to improve their seeding ahead of the NCAC Championships, placed several runners in off events.

The change of pace was probably most evident among the Gators' outstanding distance trio, who all moved down to the mile for the first time this season. Senior Katie Stancik delivered a tremendous effort to pace the Allegheny attack with a final finishing time of 5:18.11. Closing 14th overall, Stancik finished one second ahead of rookie Kristina Martin (5:19.66) and three ticks up on Kelly Gallagher (5:21.84).

Allegheny bagged its top individual efforts of the day in the field, where Lauren Butler and Deedee Evans closed near the top of the leader board. Butler registered 41'1.5” on her first throw in the shot put and rode that toss to a 10th-place finish, including the top finish among Division III competitors. Evans, who also competed in the long jump, continued to flash her upside in the triple jump after finishing 12th overall in the event with a mark of 15'.5” on her final jump. Emily Norton, who also competed in the high jump, leaped 15'0.5” on her final attempt in the long jump to finish 24th.

The Gators also received quality efforts from Rebecca Lendyak (8.33) and Beth Muller (8.36) in the 60-meter dash. Muller came back to split 27.00 in the 200m, while rookie teammate Dominique Billingslea ran 27.91. Facing a competitive field, a trio of Allegheny seniors finished within one-half second of each other in the 800m. Stephanie Alberico paced the group (2:29.35), with Angela Dyer (2:29.46) and Laura Heltman (2:29.76) crossing the line nearly in step.
