GAMBIER, Ohio –
Senior Emily Norton and freshman Cameron Day jump-started the Gators' NCAC title hopes as the conference began its indoor track and field championships with the pentathlon on Saturday.

Norton put Allegheny on the scoreboard after posting a fifth-place finish out of 13 entrants.  She shined in the jumps, netting a third-place result in both the long jump (15'2”) and high jump (4'7.5”). Norton also grabbed fourth in the 55-meter hurdles with a clip of 9.42 seconds and closed out the day with a point total of 2,533, just 60 points behind eventual NCAC runner-up Leah Jacques of Kenyon.

Day closed ninth overall and finished just outside of the scoring with an aggregate of 2,254. Day's best event of the competition came in the 1000-meter run, where he split 2:55.20 to finish third overall. The versatile rookie also delivered a seventh-place finish in the shot put after a toss of 32'3.75”.

After competing on the campus of Kenyon College for the pentathlon, NCACs move to Oberlin College for the remainder of the meet. The conference championships conclude next Friday and Saturday, March 4-5.
