SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Three members of the Slippery Rock University indoor track and field teams have been accepted into the 2011 NCAA Division II National Championships, which will take place March 11-12 at the Albuquerque Convention Center in Albuquerque, N.M.

Brady Wert and Cameron Daugherty will represent The Rock men's team, while Whitney Hendershot will make her third indoor nationals appearance to represent the SRU women.

Wert will be making his second consecutive appearance in the indoor National Championships in the heptathlon. Last season, he placed 10th at the national meet in the seven-event competition.

Wert earned an entry into this season's championship meet on the strength of his Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference title, in which he posted a score of 6,922 points. That mark seeds him 10th.

Daugherty will be making his first collegiate appearance at a National Championship meet. He qualified in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.91 meters, which ranks him sixth best in Division II this season.

Hendershot, who has battled injuries throughout the last two seasons, will be making a return trip to the indoor championships to compete in the high jump for the third time. She is already a three-time All-American in the high jump, earning two accolades indoors and one outdoors. Her clearance of 1.71 meters ranks her 11th in the nation currently.

Wert will be the first to compete when he opens competition in the heptathlon March 11 at 9 a.m. His events will scatter throughout the two-day meet.

Hendershot and Daugherty will both compete Saturday, March 12. The women's high jump is scheduled for 1:45 p.m., while the men's pole vault is set for 3 p.m.

A number of other Slippery Rock track and field standouts reached provisional qualifying marks, but just narrowly missed an entry into the championships.

On the men's side, Kevin Jewel and Terrece Draper each had the 14th-best performance in the nation in their events. The selection committee accepted 12 entries in the 800-meters, making Jewel the second one out, and 13 entries in the triple jump, leaving Draper just one spot shy.

Chris Warning had the 18th-best performance in the weight throw, where 12 entries were accepted, and Kris Stalma had the 20th-ranked time in the 60-meter hurdles, where 13 entries were taken.

On the women's side, Kelly Bruder was ranked 14th in the heptathlon and only 12 entries were accepted. Crystal Burnick and Jen Harpp ranked 18th and 22nd in the 5,000-meter run, where 14 entries were accepted.

The distance medley relay team of Kaela Snyder, Rachel Knapp, Caitlin Hancox and Harpp was ranked 16th, while 11 entries were accepted. Snyder was listed 28th in the 800-meter run, where 12 entries were taken.

Rounding out the list of provisional qualifiers for SRU this year was the 4x400-meter relay team of Snyder, Knapp, Amanda Seigworth and Allison Smith, which ranked 27th on the list, while 11 teams were accepted.
