INDIANAPOLIS – The Slippery Rock University men's basketball team dropped one spot to No. 10 in the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Rankings, released Wednesday by the Division II Men's Basketball Committee.
The rankings, which do not count games played Monday or Tuesday of this week, are the final rankings that will be released before the selection committee announces the NCAA Tournament field in a live webcast Sunday night at 10 p.m.
The top-eight teams in the region will earn a berth in the national tournament.
Slippery Rock helped its cause already this week with a win Tuesday night on the road at Mercyhurst, which is slotted at No. 4 in this week's poll. That gives The Rock two road wins over the Lakers in the last two weeks.
Cheyney, which upset No. 7 seed Mansfield twice in the last week, also improved its case and jumped into the rankings at No. 9, one slot ahead of SRU.
That makes Friday's PSAC semifinal matchup between Slippery Rock and Cheyney an even bigger one, as both teams look to bolster their tournament resumes before the selection committee makes its final decisions.
A link to Sunday's live webcast for the Division II Tournament field announcement will be posted at www.ncaasports.com prior to the 10 p.m. webcast.
