2011 NCAC Indoor Track and Field Championships - Day Two Heat Sheets

OBERLIN, Ohio –
Fresh off the 2010-11 basketball season, junior Donte Briscoe showcased his versatility as an athlete after powering to the individual conference title in the triple jump. The victory served as Allegheny's signature performance as the team gears up for a promising second day of action.

Briscoe won the event crown and secured a First Team All-Conference citation with a mark of 13.67. The victory appeared comfortable on the score sheet although the two-sport standout just missed on an NCAA provisional qualifying mark.

Senior Ryan Sullivan authored the only other scoring effort on the first day of competition, but his performance in the 5000m can't be overstated. After losing heavy conference favorite Chris Marker to the flu, Sullivan stepped up and delivered a sensational run that resulted in a second-place finish and a final time of 15:06.33. Although he finished outside of the scoring, junior Pat McLaughlin also turned in a solid effort in the 5k with a time of 15:40.70.

Looking ahead to tomorrow, junior Taylor Throckmorton cruised into finals in the open quarter (50.89) despite posting the second-fastest clip of the day. Throckmorton also qualified in the 200m (22.99) where the top seven places were separated by one-tenth of one second. Rookie Marc Funderlich will provide extra firepower for the Gators in the 400m after sliding into Saturday's final behind a time of 51.39.

Seniors Andrew Mahone and Matt Brush also found success in the qualifying round of the 800m. Mahone won his heat in 1:56.85 and sits in second heading into tomorrow, while Brush manufactured a big PR (1:58.44) to secure a spot in finals.

Through four scored events, the Gators are positioned in fourth place with 19 points. Wabash leads in the team standings with 49 points with Ohio Wesleyan (38) and Oberlin (29) sitting second and third, respectively.
