Maron Brown
FAIRMONT, W. Va. – Slippery Rock University men's basketball standout Maron Brown has been named to second team All-Atlantic Region honors from Daktronics, Inc., as voted on by the region's sports information directors.

The All-Region honor is the first of Brown's career and is the second All-Star recognition he has garnered this season, accompanying a first team All-Conference selection. Three players from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference were honored on the All-Region team.

Brown, a senior from Salisbury, Md., is currently leading Slippery Rock in scoring, rebounding and steals (32). His per game averages of 18.0 points and 10.3 rebounds rank fifth and second in the PSAC this season.

The 6-foot-5 forward has recorded a school record 19 double-doubles and is the only player in the 16-team PSAC to average more than 15 points and 10 rebounds per game.

He scored 13 or more points in 25 games this season and topped the 20-point mark 11 times. He also recorded two games over 30 points, including a 32 point, 11 rebound effort against Cheyney in the PSAC semifinals. Brown led all players in scoring at the PSAC Final Four this year, totaling 57 points and shooting 69.2 percent from the field over two games.
Brown has amassed staggering numbers over his career at Slippery Rock, which has lasted just three seasons. He currently ranks seventh on the school's all-time scoring ledger with 1,304 points. More impressively, he ranks third on the rebounding list with 856 career boards. He is just the second player in SRU history to score more than 1,300 points and grab more than 800 rebounds, joining Ed McFarlane (1958-62).

This season, Brown led Slippery Rock to its first PSAC championship game since 2000, where Indiana (Pa.) came away with an 82-75 win after making a conference record 62 trips to the free throw line. SRU outscored the Crimson Hawks 56-33 from the field and held a 35-30 rebounding advantage, but made just 29 trips to the free throw line.

Slippery Rock was awarded the No. 8 seed in the Atlantic Region and its first berth in the NCAA Division II tournament since 1991. The Rock will play at No. 1 overall seed West Liberty Saturday at 6 p.m. in the first round of the tournament.
