Slippery Rock improves to 6-2 on the season after defeating Holy Family 5-2 and St. Cloud State 4-1 Friday.

Kirsten Brant
KISSIMMIEE, Fla. – After having its games rained out a day ago, the Slippery Rock University softball team earned two wins Friday at the Rebel Spring Games by defeating Holy Family, 5-2, and St. Cloud State, 4-1. SRU ends its time in Florida with a record of 6-2.

Kirsten Brant and Breanna Tongel led Slippery Rock to its 5-2 victory over Holy Family (1-6). Both players recorded two-hit, one RBI games for The Rock. Shauna Walker (2-2) earned the win after striking out two and allowing just two runs in seven innings pitched.

Trailing 2-0 heading into the third inning, SRU began its comeback thanks to a two-run third inning that was spearheaded by RBIs from Tongel and Stephanie Collenette that tied the game at 2-2.

Slippery Rock took the lead for good by scoring three runs in the fifth inning thanks to RBIs from Brant, Katie Saluga and Kristin Kaminski.

The Green and White managed only five hits, but made the most of their opportunities to pull out the 4-1 win against St. Cloud State. Slippery Rock snapped St. Cloud State's six-game winning streak.

Shaylee Ianno (4-0) picked up her fourth win in five appearances Friday, pitching seven innings, striking out four St. Cloud hitters and allowing just one first-inning run.

The top-half of The Rock's lineup provided all of the offense for SRU vs. SCS as Saluga and Brant both went 2-for-3 while Jordan Zeunges and Jenna Geibel each tallied two RBIs to secure SRU's sixth win of the season.

The SRU offense went to work early with Geibel driving in two runs in the first inning and Zeunges brining two more Rock runners home in the third inning.

The four runs would be more than enough for Ianno, who kept the St. Cloud bats relatively silent for the games final six innings. Ianno has allowed just five runs in 29 innings pitched this season.

Slippery Rock will be back in action March 17 at Virginia State. The first pitch of the double-header is scheduled for 2 p.m.
