Rock downs Converse, 25-5

Casey Quinn scored five times and 12 players scored at least one goal to lead the SRU women's lacrosse team to a 25-5 win at Converse College Saturday.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team got goals from 12 different players en route to recording a 25-5 win over Converse College Saturday afternoon.

The Rock improved their season record to 2-0, while the Valkyries dropped to 0-6 on the year.

Casey Quinn led the way for SRU with five goals, five draw controls, four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Amy Halls added three goals and one assist and Brittany Jaillet notched her first collegiate hat trick with three goals.

Morgan Pettit and Alexis Slutsky each scored two goals and handed out one assist, while Ariel Knox, Samantha Eddy and Allison Richards all added two goals. Emma VanDenburg and Katie Roof each scored one goal and handed out two assists.

Dakota McCoy and Kourtney Pike each scored one goal and Lauren Laubach capped the point scorers with one assist.

Kat Elkins earned the win in goal, allowing four goals and recording seven saves.

Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 37-19 in total shots, 36-27 in ground balls and 24-7 in draw controls. The Rock cleared the zone successfully on 11-of-17 attempts, while Converse was 12-of-16 in clear attempts.

Brooke Bondurant led the hosts with two goals, while Brianna Hoffman added one goal and one assist. Madison Voland took the loss in goal, allowing 15 goals and recording four saves.

Saturday's game was all Slippery Rock from the start as the visitors scored the first eight goals of the game. Converse answered with a 3-0 run to cut the lead to 8-3, but The Rock responded with a 9-0 run to put the game out of reach.

SRU will open its home and conference schedules when Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference rival No. 9 Gannon visits N. Kerr Thompson Stadium Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
