ALBUEQURQUE, N.M. – Slippery Rock University men's track star
Cameron Daugherty earned All-America honors Saturday in the pole vault at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Daugherty placed fourth in the event with a mark of 5.15 meters. The height was a Slippery Rock record and also made Daugherty an All-American in his first appearance at the NCAA Indoor Championships. He easily bested his previous season-high clearance of 4.91 meters.
Also competing for Slippery Rock Saturday was multi-event athlete
Brady Wert, who finished 12th in the heptathlon with 4,595 points.
Wert entered the heptathlon's final three events Saturday in 12th place. He closed out the competition by placing eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.64), eighth in the pole vault (3.90 meters) and 12th in the 1000-meter run (3:08.87).
Brad Gamble of Chadron State won the heptathlon with a Division II record 5,456 points while Western Washington's Ryan Brown won the pole vault title with a clearance of 5.25 meters.
Daugherty and Wert will both join the men's track team for the outdoor season March 25 at the Western PA Championships in California, Pa.
