Aughtry-Lindsay joins Rock football staff

Freddie Aughtry-Lindsay came to SRU from North Carolina State, where he served the past three seasons as an intern and graduate assistant

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Freddie Aughtry-Lindsay, a former student athlete and graduate assistant at North Carolina State University, has been named as an assistant football coach at Slippery Rock University, according to Paul Lueken, SRU's Director of Athletics.

Aughtry-Lindsay joined The Rock staff after serving one season as the defensive graduate assistant at N.C. State. Prior to that, he served one season each as the Wolfpack's video graduate assistant for defense (2009) and recruiting intern (2008). He got his start in coaching as defensive coordinator at his alma mater, High Point Andrews High School, in 2007.

Aughtry-Lindsay started in 19 games in his four-year (2001-04) playing career at N.C. State and recorded a career-best 105 tackles as a junior in 2003. He was a member of the top-ranked defense in the nation in 2004. He finished his career with 266 tackles, 22.5 tackles-for-loss and 6.5 sacks.

Aughtry-Lindsay scored two defensive touchdowns in a home win against Connecticut in 2003 with a 48-yard fumble recovery and a game-winning 56-yard interception return with five seconds left. He was named Atlantic Coast Conference and national “Defensive Player of the Week” following that game.

Originally from High Point, N.C., Aughtry-Lindsay and his wife, Amber, have a son, Colton.

Aughtry-Lindsay fills The Rock coaching position formerly held by Al Washington, who also came to SRU from N.C. State. Washington is now linebackers coach at Division I Elon College in North Carolina.

Aughtry-Lindsay and Washington both worked side-by-side with former Rock assistant coach Keith Willis, who is now defensive line coach at N.C. State.
