LYNCHBURG, Va. – Senior Josh Hostetler won the javelin and sophomore Joel Flott won the 800-meter run on Saturday afternoon as the Shippensburg men's outdoor track and field team opened its season with 17 PSAC qualifying performances at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Invitational hosted by Lynchburg University.

Hostetler was one of three Raiders to achieve a PSAC qualifying performance in the javelin – his pace-setting throw was 193 feet 4 inches. Graduate Christian D'Annibale posted a third-place mark of 192 feet 5 inches while senior Glenn Bell finished fifth after a throw of 182 feet.

The throwers had a particularly strong meet, as Shippensburg posted 14 PSAC qualifying performances from the four events. Senior Adam Deiseroth was SU's leading discus thrower (148 feet 1 inch); senior Steve D'Arcy was the team's pacesetter in the shot put (49 feet 5 ¾ inches) and senior Tappah Dinnall finished third in the hammer (162 feet 6 inches).

Flott shined in the 800, posting a time of 1:54.94 that most runners would settle for if they were in mid-season form. Freshman Dan Dreeman also picked up a PSAC qualifier in the 800 while freshman Dominic Raguz achieved a conference qualifying performance in the 400-meter hurdles.

Shippensburg will have the full squad in action next weekend at the Fred Hardy Invitational from Richmond.
