LYNCHBURG, Va. – Senior
Erica Hess won the 400-meter dash and junior
Lauren Redington won the long jump on Saturday as the Shippensburg women's outdoor track and field team opened its season with 17 PSAC qualifying performances at the Dr. Jack M. Toms Invitational hosted by Lynchburg University.
Hess nearly posted a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 400 in her first race of the outdoor season with an impressive time of 56.58 seconds. She also finished second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.77 seconds.
Redington had a spectacular afternoon; winning the long jump (17 feet 10 ¼ inches), placing second in the triple jump (36 feet 0 ¼ inches) and finishing fourth in the 100-meter dash (12.99 seconds) to pick up three conference qualifiers in her first meet of the year.
Senior thrower
Stephanie Harrison also achieved PSAC qualifiers in three events; finishing second in the discus (127 feet), third in the shot put (40 feet) and fourth in the hammer (138 feet 10 inches).
Sophomore
Erin Flick was one of three Raiders with PSAC qualifiers in the high jump. Flick finished second by clearing 5 feet 3 ¾ inches.
Shippensburg will have its full squad in action next weekend at the Fred Hardy Invitational from Richmond.
