Rock men compete at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Slippery Rock University men's outdoor track and field team traveled to North Carolina Friday to take part in the adidas Raleigh Relays.

Thrower Chris Warning posted a third-place finish for The Rock in the discus with a throw of 51.03 meters. Friday marked the third competition this season that Warning, who already owns an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the discus at 51.68 meters, has made a throw of at least 50 meters.

Three Rock runners met the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference qualifying standard in the 10,000-meter run at the Raleigh Relays. Jason Leonard led the trio with a 13-place finish at a time of 31:18.57 while Travis Arrigoni and Alex Koksal finished back-to-back in 23rd and 24th place with respective times of 32:07.40 and 32:20.02.

Kris Stalma led SRU's 110-meter hurdle competitors with a 25th-place showing at 15.14. He was joined in the event by Dan Hedglin (27th / 15.35) and Ethan Geisler (43rd / 15.95). Hedglin won his heat while Stalma placed second in his, both athletes had previously posted better PSAC qualifying times earlier in the season while Geisler was just .05 away from qualifying for the PSAC Championships.

Hedglin (26th place), Geisler (29th place / 55.70) and Stalma (34th place) also took part in the 400-meter hurdles Friday. Hedglin and Stalma both improved on their previous PSAC qualifying marks with times of 55.43 and 56.04. Michael Dicocco also represented Slippery Rock in the race and clocked a time of 56.66 to place 39th.

Slippery Rock will be back in action at the Raleigh Relays Saturday with select Rock athletes also competing at the Bill Van Horne Invitational in Wheeling, W. Va.
