SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team capped a 2-0 weekend with a 13-10 win over Shippensburg Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference match.

Saturday's win was the first Rock win over the Lady Raiders since 1990 and improved the team's record to 4-3 overall and 2-3 in league play. Shippensburg drops to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in the PSAC.

Slippery Rock broke the game open with two separate 4-0 runs, one to open the game and one that came late in the second half to break a 7-7 tie.

Amy Halls led the team with her most impressive outing since an eight-goal performance in the season-opener. She tallied five goals and grabbed a game-high six draw controls to go along with two ground balls and one caused turnover.

Casey Quinn added three goals, one assist, four draw controls and two ground balls to help pace The Rock attack. Katie Roof added three goals and Emma VanDenburg and Brittany Jaillet each scored one goal and handed out one assist. Morgan Pettit capped the scoring with one assist.

Kat Elkins earned her fourth win of the season in goal, stopping seven shots along the way.

Shippensburg was led by a four-goal performance from Karen Schnurr. Lauren Hauch chopped in a goal and two assists for the hosts.

Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 35-20 in total shots, 16-9 in draw controls and 12-11 in ground balls.

The Rock opened the game with a four-goal run with Roof, VanDenburg, Halls and Jaillet all tallying goals to put SRU up 4-0 with 20:57 to play in the first half.

Shippensburg answered with two goals to cut the lead to 4-2 at the 12:32 mark and the teams exchanged goals to close the half with The Rock leading 5-3.

Halls and Roof each scored to open the second half and push the SRU lead out to 7-3, but the hosts would battle back.

The Lady Raiders put together their own four-goal run to tie the game at 7-7 with 16:57 to play.

SRU stopped the run and answered with its own four-goal run, with Halls and Quinn each tallying two goals, to push the lead out to 11-7 with 12:33 to play.

Shippensburg would get three more goals down the stretch, but goals from Halls and Roof neutralized those tallies to give The Rock the 13-10 win.
