Jewel hits provisional in 800-meters at the Raleigh Relays

Kevin Jewel posted a time of 1:51.75 in the 800-meter run Saturday at the Raleigh Relays. The time is the second-fastest in NCAA Division II this season.

Kevin Jewel
ran the second-fastest 800-meter run time in NCAA Division II this season, and met the NCAA provisional qualifying standard in the process, Saturday to lead the Slippery Rock University men's outdoor track and field team on day two of the adidas Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, N.C.

Jewel clocked a time of 1:51.75, which is easily the best time this season in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, and finished in second place in a field filled with runners from Division I schools Saturday.

Jason Jamieson also had a strong race in the 800-meters, placing 15th with a PSAC Championship qualifying time of 1:54.05.

Eric Geddis won the 3000-Meter Steeplechase in 9:34.57. The time met the PSAC qualifying standard for the event. Rogers Clements joined Geddis in the race and placed 10th in 10:01.85.

Chris Warning continued his dominant season with a fourth-place finish in the hammer throw. Warning registered a mark of 56.50 meters, 3.37 meters off of his top NCAA provisional qualifying distance of 59.87 meters.

Morgan Elliott rounded out Slippery Rock's competitors at the Raleigh Relays by qualifying for the PSAC Championships in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:02.23. The time was good enough to earn Elliott a 13th-place finish.

Slippery Rock also sent a contingent of athletes to compete in the Bill Van Horne Invitational in Wheeling, W. Va. Slippery Rock placed sixth in the team standings with 44.5 points. West Virginia Wesleyan won the team competition with 82.5 points. Glennville State (69 points) and California (Pa.) rounded out the top three, finishing in second and third place.

Leading Slippery Rock's athletes at the Bill Horne Invitational was pole vaulter Cameron Daugherty. Daugherty won the pole vault competition with a clearance of 4.55 meters. Ryan Camody (third place / 4.40 meters), David Caldwell (fifth place / 4.10 meters) and Alexander Merica (10th place / 3.80 meters) all joined Daugherty in the top-10 in the pole vault. Daugherty's and Camody's times both met the PSAC qualifying standard.

Terrece Draper recorded two top-10 finishes with solid efforts in the triple jump and the long jump. Draper qualified for the PSAC Championships in the triple jump after a 13.52 meter, second-place performance. He also finished in eighth place in the long jump with a mark of 6.04 meters.

Other top-10 field performers for The Rock included Joseph Kelly (third place / 44.03 meters) in the hammer throw and javelin competitors Brady Wert (fifth / 47.67 meters) and Jeffrey Patterson (10th / 44.47 meters).

Ethan Isoldi and Jonathan Boyd had The Rock's top running performances at the Bill Van Horne Invitational. Isoldi placed eighth in the 800-meter run at 2:02.88 and Boyd came in eighth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time 16.35.

Nathaniel Helfferich produced 10th and 12th place finishes in the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash respectively. Helfferich ran the 200-meters in 23.61 while clocking a time of 52.26 in the 400-meters.

Slippery Rock will be back in action Friday when it hosts California (Pa,) and Clarion at the Bill Lennox Track at N. Kerr Thompson Stadium.
