LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Sophomore
Cody DeBoer was named the PSAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday by the conference office after a historic long jump that resulted in an automatic qualifier to the 2011 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
DeBoer broke the 34-year-old school record in the long jump on Saturday at the Fred Hardy Invitational by matching the NCAA automatic qualifying standard of 24 feet, 9 inches. It currently stands as the fourth-best long jump in Division II. The old SU long jump record of 24 feet 1 inch was set in 1977 by Russ Dickinson.
DeBoer finished eighth in the long jump at the 2-11 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships to achieve his first career All-America honor. He set the indoor school record in the long jump at the PSAC Championships until it was broken by freshman teammate
Herman Kirkland.
