SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University assistant soccer coach Chris Logan has resigned from his current position to accept an assistant coaching job with the University of Pittsburgh's NCAA Division I women's soccer program.

Logan was officially announced by Pitt Friday in a release from head women's soccer coach Sue-Moy Chin.

“Chris has been a valued member of our men's and women's soccer programs over the last four seasons,” said Paul Lueken, Slippery Rock director of athletics. “We thank him for his efforts and congratulate him on his accomplishments. We wish Chris nothing but the best as he moves on with his career at Pitt.”

Logan spent four seasons at Slippery Rock, serving as the graduate assistant for the men's team for two years and spending the last two fall seasons working as the primary goalkeeping coach for both the men's and women's programs.

“Chris Logan has been an outstanding assistant for our program,” said head men's soccer coach Michael Bonelli. “His passion and commitment for Rock soccer is something to be admired. Chris will be missed, and I know he will help the University of Pittsburgh women's soccer program achieve great success.”

A native of Stoke-on-Trent, England, Logan came to Slippery Rock after a stellar playing career at Notre Dame College, where he helped the Falcons to three division titles in the American Mideast Conference.

In his tenure at Slippery Rock, he was integral in the development of goalkeeper Greg Blum, who was twice named the top goalkeeper in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and the NCAA Atlantic Region. Blum earned All-America honors after the 2009 season and just this week signed a professional contract with the Pittsburgh Riverhounds.

While working with the men's team at SRU, Logan was a part of two NCAA Tournament runs that saw the team reach the Sweet 16. He was also a member of the staff when The Rock claimed the 2009 PSAC men's title and finished with the best record in school history at 18-4-1.

This past fall, he helped guide the women's program into the second round of the NCAA Tournament after a school record undefeated streak of 15 games. The Rock's goalkeepers combined to allow just 19 goals for a team goals against average of 0.82.

“Chris will be a fine addition to the Pitt women's program,” said Rock head women's soccer coach Noreen Herlihy. “He is a quality goalkeeper coach and is tactically very sound as a young coach. I wish Chris all the very best in the years ahead.”

“Being a part of the Slippery Rock University men's & women's soccer programs has been one of the most special experiences of my life and I feel extremely privileged to have been given the chance to work with not only exceptional athletes, but exceptional people these past few years,” said Logan. “I am very proud of what we have accomplished here and I'm looking forward to seeing both programs continue to compete for championships in the future.

Finally, I would like to thank all the athletic staff, in particular coach Matt Thompson, coach Bonelli, and coach Herlihy for providing me with the chance to develop and be successful with two of the top teams in NCAA Division II soccer.”
