Meet Results
ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Albright track and field team got their 2011 outdoor season off to a great start as a number of athletes earned top-5 finishes Saturday afternoon at the Muhlenberg College Invitational.
Picking up his first win of the outdoor season was senior
Justin Gewirtz. Fresh off of his record-setting indoor season Gewirtz added another first place finish to his resume as he led the all competitors in the high jump. With a jump of 6-04.00, Gewirtz cruised to his first win of the 2011 outdoor season.
Also picking up a first place finish was the women's 4x100 relay team of
Shannon Loos,
Meghan Loos,
Danisha Higgs, and
Taylor Kutz who recorded a time of 53.04 seconds to win the event.
In the men's hammer throw it was
Robert Baldwin leading the way with his toss of 111-09 feet to finish in fifth place.
Lindsay Boyd led the Lady Lions in the women's hammer with her throw of 91-02 feet.
Jordan Fegley made his return to the Lions roster in the javelin throw. With a toss of 150-01 feet, Fegley placed sixth overall.
Senior thrower
Andrew Hettinger had quite the afternoon as he took fourth in the discus throw, with an impressive mark of 130-09 feet.
Christine Pallas finished in 17th place as the lone Albright competitor in the women's discus (82-11 ft).
The men's shot put was once again led by sophomore standout
Dane Canonico. The New Jersey native placed third with a toss of 44-02.00 feet.
Mackenzie Miller had another busy afternoon as she placed fourth in the long jump (15-09.75), fifth in the triple jump (32-08.25), seventh in the 100 meter hurdles (17.29) and fourth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:11.17). The men's pole vault saw
Clark Runciman take second with his jump of 12-06.00 feet.
In the long 5,000 meter run
Kim Hummel finished in 15th place with a time of 20:18.62, while teammate
Gabby Stine finished in 10th place in the 3,000 meter Steeple Chase (13:54.05).
Oshane Rennie was a top-5 finisher in the men's 110 meter hurdles with his final time of 16.39 seconds (4th place).
Higgs posted a second place finish (12.88) and Kutz a seventh place finish (13.50) in the finals of 100 meter dash respectively. The two would later finish in third and fourth place in the 200 meter dash with their final times of 26.55 and 27.72. Junior distance runner
George Cook led the way in the 1,500 meter run with his time of 4:22.92 (16th place).
Krystal Swasey and
Danielle DiPietro finished in ninth and 10th place respectively in the 400 meter dash with their times of 1:04.67 and 1:07.65.
Kutz along with the Loos sisters and
Krystal Swasey earned a third place finish in the 4x400 with a time of 4:20.42. The men's 4x400 relay team of Rennie, Gewirtz,
Sean Potter, and
Anthony Glass finished in fifth place with their time of 3:35.45.
Track and field returns to action on Thursday when they take part in the three-day Messiah College Falcon Invitational.
