WAHINGTON, Pa. – Behind 14 top 10 finishes and nine top five performances, Allegheny women's track and field continued its spring season with a third-place finish out of 16 teams at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational.
The Gators received significant contributions in all areas en route to the strong team finish. Katie Stancik, who along with Kristina Martin, paced a 1-2 finish for the Blue and Gold in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Allegheny also authored a second individual win on the afternoon as Sara Mitrano delivered a great effort to secure the top spot in the 5000m with a time of 18:36.46. Kelly Gallagher finished third in the event.
While the distance unit scooped up big points, the Gators had several sparkling performances in the field. Kristen Collins enjoyed a monster personal record in the hammer, throwing 126'8” to finish third overall. She also finished sixth in the discus. Teammate Lauren Butler secured fifth in the hammer, but really shined in the shot put where she grabbed third. Tova Feinberg finished ninth overall in the shot, just missing out on the scoring.
The sprint corps was led by Rebecca Lendyak, who moved up from sixth to third in the finals of the 100m (13.06) while clocking 27.19 in the 200m en route to fourth. The Gators, who will unleash a full squad next week at Mount Union, also picked up points from Stephanie Alberico in the 800m (2:26.39) and Emily Norton in the high jump (4'7.5”).
