Bobby Over and Tony Dipre Crush Meet Records to Pace Allegheny at W&J

Complete Results

WASHINGTON, Pa. –
Competing in its first meet since returning from a sun-soaked spring break trip to San Diego, Allegheny men's track and field delivered some sensational runs especially given the less-than-ideal conditions. The day's top standouts were Bobby Over and Tony Dipre, who each smashed meet records while leading the Gators to a fourth-place finish out of 19 teams at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational.

Over led a strong contingent for Allegheny in the 3000-meter steeplechase. He shattered a personal record while breaking the tape in 9:29.14. Matt Brush finished third in the event, with Zac Ross (6th) and Lance Claflin (9th) also notching top 10 finishes.

Dipre also shined on Saturday with a thunderous performance in the 5000m. Untested for most of the race, Dipre cruised to a 28-second victory and meet-record time with a split of 14:45.95. Patrick McLaughlin clocked 15:32.32 to snag sixth in the race while Ryan Sullivan secured the final scoring spot.

With Over and Dipre stealing the headlines, Taylor Throckmorton continued to piece together an impressive start to the spring slate. Throckmorton served as the day's only dual winner after securing the top spot in both the 200m (22.54) and 400m (49.51). He was the only competitor on the day to break the 50-second barrier, although Marc Funderlich added crucial points for the Gators' attack with a third-place run (50.82).

Allegheny boasted 10 top five finishes, including fifth-place efforts by Donte Briscoe in the high jump (5'10.75”) and Andrew Mahone in the 800m (1:59.44). Mike Vlah rebounded from a disappointing spring-break run to finish third in the 1500m (4:01.18) while Brennan Hamilton grabbed fourth out of 18 competitors in the 10000m.

The Gators, who will unveil a complete squad next week at Mount Union, earned additional points by Evan Breitsch and Logan Hinderliter, who finished seventh in the 10k and eighth in the javelin, respectively.
