Crusaders Break Records At Danny Curran Invitational

Chester, Pa. (Apr. 2, 2011) - The Men's and Women's Track and Field teams competed at the Danny Curran Invitational at Widener University, hitting 11 MAC Qualifying marks and earning six top ten finishes. Brian Nerney (Middletown, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) improved upon his best mark of the season in high jump, clearing 1.98m/6'6” and winning the event, while placing sixth in the long jump, breaking the school record and bettering his previous MAC qualifying mark.

Dillon Emery (Locustdale, Pa./North Schuylkill) grabbed another top ten finish with his sixth place finish in the discus. The throw also broke the school record that he sit a week prior. Emery was also able to break the school record in shot put.

On the women's side, three throwers placed in the top ten in the hammer throw, all earning MAC qualifying marks. Katie Wimberg (Galloway, NJ/Sacred Heart), Alex Stengel (Avondale, Pa./Avon grove) and Amanda Searle (Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Regional) placed fourth, fifth and eighth respectively with Stengel hitting a new PR in the process. All three, along with Jazmyn Vega (Reading, Pa./Holy Name) hit season's best in discus, and Vega threw a lifetime best to qualify for MACs in the javelin along with resetting the school record.

On the track, Chynelle Washington shattered her previous best and school record in the 200m dash, and Jessica Weiss (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) tied her best mark in the same event. Stephanie Coleman (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) set the school record in the 400m hurdles in her first time running the event, qualifying for the MAC Championships in the process.

The Crusaders will be back in action next weekend at the WCU Collegiate Invitational. The events start at 2:30pm on Friday and 10am on Saturday
