LEWISBURG, Pa. – Shrugging off the soggy conditions that dominated much of the region, Allegheny men's track and field continued to set itself up nicely for a strong postseason performance with a handful of inspring marks at the 2011 Bison Outdoor Track & Field Classic hosted by Bucknell University.
Sophomore
Bobby Over finally chased down a record he nearly broke two weeks ago after winning the opening section of the steeplechase with a new program standard. He split 9:26.10 to break the tape while knocking Matt Smith's 2007 time of 9:28.46 from the Allegheny record books. Matt Brush delivered a sensational effort in the same race, finishing third overall with a PR of 9:32.20. Both competitors just missed on achieving NCAA provisional cuts, but are within striking distance with plenty of season left.
Senior
Tony Dipre was able to pick up an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 1,500-meter run, but more importantly, his fifth-place time of 3:50.84 resulted in the second-fastest time in the nation this year while also marking the second-fastest time in team history. Sophomore
Mike Vlah finished second in the second section of the event while setting a new personal record in 4:00.82.
The Gators also received solid efforts from junior
Patrick McLaughlin and rookie
Cameron Day. McLaughlin established a new personal record with a strong result in the 10,000-meter run, covering the 25-lap race in 31:35.77 to keep pace with Division I-dominated field. Day finished sixth in the first flight of the javelin with a throw of 161'11”.
