PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior
Amanda Raudabaugh and senior
Jamie McCollum recorded NCAA provisional qualifying times in the 800 meters on Friday night despite less than desirable running conditions from Princeton University as the Shippensburg women's outdoor track and field team battled the rain and a strong Division I field of talent at the Larry Ellis Invitational.
Raudabaugh finished 12th in a field of 74 runners with a time of 2:10.38 – the mark is less than a second from the automatic qualifying standard and figures to be strong enough at season's end to get her to the national championships. She already had the fastest 800-meter time in the conference entering the weekend and exceeded that effort by more than two seconds on Friday night.
McCollum set a collegiate PR with her NCAA provisional qualifying time of 2:13.56 – a finish that should now rank her second in the conference behind Raudabaugh. Two weeks ago, McCollum ran the 800 in 2:14.48.
Freshman
Megan Rhyner also ran the 800 on Friday night – she finished in 2:16.30.
Shippensburg will have two contingents compete on Saturday – one at Princeton and the other at East Stroudsburg's All-American Meet.
