NEW ORLEANS – The Shippensburg University women's outdoor track and field program has dropped one spot to the No. 14 national ranking in the latest computer data released on Tuesday by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
SU remains one of three nationally-ranked programs from the PSAC. Slippery Rock (No. 23) and East Stroudsburg (No. 25) remain atop the rankings while IUP dropped out of this week's chart.
Shippensburg currently boasts nine season-best performances that have satisfied the NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying standards for Division II.
Junior
Neely Spence continues to pace the nation in the 5K after breaking the all-time Division II record at the Mt. Sac Relays. Spence also obtained a provisional mark in the 1,500 at Lafayette.
Sophomore
Katie Spratford is provisionally qualified in the 5K and will be seeking a strong time in the 10K tomorrow at the Penn Relays.
Junior
Amanda Raudabaugh is one of the nation's leaders in the 800 and the 1,500 meters. Raudabaugh ranks fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:10.38 that was achieved at Princeton – she ranks eighth in the 1,500 with a time of 4:30.83 that was obtained the week before at Bucknell.
Senior
Jamie McCollum posted a provisional qualifier in the 800 and ranks among the nation's Top 20.
Senior
Erica Hess is the reigning PSAC Women's Track Athlete of the Week after she provisionally qualified in the 400 meters at Princeton with a time of 56.04. She also is a main factor in the 4x400-meter relay with Raudabaugh and senior
Laura Henzy that ranks 21st in the country.
Sophomore
Caitlin Stuetz posted a 400-meter hurdle time of 1:01.99 at Princeton that ranks among the nation's Top 20 performances. Stuetz will be looking to improve upon that time tomorrow morning at the Penn Relays.
Overall, with one week before final exams, Shippensburg has 47 women qualified to compete at the PSAC Championships. SU currently holds the top times or marks in the 400, 800, 1,500, 3K, 5K, 4x400-meter relay, 4x800-meter relay and pole vault.
Today, Shippensburg has multis competitors finishing up at the Penn Relays. Select distance runners will compete Thursday at the Penn Relays while the whole squad will be in action on Saturday at home in the Paul Kaiser Classic.
