SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The women's 4x100 relay team of
Taylor Kutz,
Danisha Higgs,
Shannon Loos, and
Meghan Loos added their names to the record book at the Shippensburg University Paul Kaiser Classic. The four sprinters recorded a final combined time of 49.85 to set a new program record Saturday afternoon.
The original record of 50.35 seconds was set in 2009 by the Loos sisters,
Mackenzie Miller, and Brianne Genter '09. That record setting performance capped off an afternoon of solid performances across the board.
Combined the women's team saw a total of nine competitors set new personal bests, while on the men's side saw six new personal bests recorded.
Setting a new personal best in the 100 meter dash was Higgs and
Candace Messner. Higgs posted a new time of 12.47 seconds to qualify for the finals of the event. She would then place fifth overall. Messner dropped nearly half a second off her career best mark to finish in 41st place in the qualifying round.
Messner along with Kutz and Shannon Loss would shave seconds off their 200 meter dash times as well. Kutz dropped 8-hundredths of a second to finish in 20th place with a time of 26.91. Loos finished in 24th place with her time of 27.13, and Messner finished in 45th place with a time of 31.10.
Kutz and Higgs also dropped seconds off their 400 meter dash personal bests to finish in 13th and 14th place respectively. Mid-distance runners

Krystal Swasey, and
Danielle DiPietro also improved their personal bests in the 800 meter run
The 400 meter hurdles saw Miller drop 16-hundredths of a second off her career best time to finish in 15th place overall (1:11.01).
Christine Pallas added 1-00.50 feet to her career best throw in the shot put (30-05.00).
On the men' side both
Sean Potter and
Chris Grove dropped seven-hundredths of a second off of their 100 meter dash times to finish in 18th (11.40) and 36th (12.07) place respectively. Grove also dropped nine-hundredths of a second off his time in the 200 meter dash (24.77).
George Cook nearly cut off a minute off of his career best time in the 800 meter run, which earned him a 21st place finish (2:03.94). Nicholas Hultz has 2.25 inches to his leap in the high jump (5-11.00), and 1.57 inches to his leap in the triple jump (37-07.75).
Michael Schwartz added nearly 3 ½ feet to his career best throw in the discus, and newcomer Neil Moerman gained some ground in the javelin with a career long toss of 138-11.50 in the javelin.
Track and Field will now get set to compete in the 2011 Outdoor Middle Atlantic Conference championship meet. The three-day event will take place at Messiah College.
