GAMBIER, Ohio –
Seniors Emily Norton and Caleigh Hughes provided Allegheny with a much-needed spark to ignite the team's title aspirations at the 2011 NCAC Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Both competitors factored into the scoring as Allegheny sits third heading into next week's championship final.

Norton finished fourth overall with a total of 3,290 points. She enjoyed a steady weekend highlighted by third-place finishes in the high jump (4'9.5”) and the javelin (88'5”).

The last four years have been really rewarding for me, mainly due to the opportunity I have had to train for and compete in the combined events," reflected Norton. "I think that my favorite part of the entire experience was getting to know the other multi-athletes in the conference. The combined events are really special because the group of athletes that compete is small and I have had the opportunity to get to know all of the other girls over the past four years."

Hughes closed with an aggregate of 2,903. Her best effort came in the shot put, where she finished second (28'10.25”). She also finished fourth in the long jump and javelin as both Gators improved their positioning by one place on Sunday.

"The past three years on the track and field team have been amazing experience," added Hughes. "I am so glad I have had the opportunity to train for and compete in the multis. Being able to train  for so many
events has allowed me to practice most of the event groups and to really appreciate all the work that everyone puts into making out team what it is. Going to the multis meets is my favorite part of the
season. We are a very small group, so all of the multi athletes from the conference get to really know each other. It is also really nice that our officials know us by name. It is a unique experience and I'm
so glad I had the chance to be part of it."

Ohio Wesleyan has the early lead in the championship race with 18 points. Kenyon is second (10), with Allegheny third (7).
