GRANTHAM, Pa. – After the second day of the 2011 Middle Atlantic Conference Outdoor Championship meet, the red and white saw another program record fall this time with senior
Mackenzie Miller setting a new mark in the heptathlon with a combined 3,911 total points, breaking the original record 3,591 set in 2005.
Miller, would place second in the event to earn her first, first team all-conference honors. She later took fourth in the 400 meter hurdles and came with 59 hundredths of a second from matching the program record with her final time of 1:08.73. With that time, Miller qualified for the finals in the event.
Also earning a spot in tomorrow's finals was
Anthony Glass in the 400 meter dash (51.16), the women's 4x100 relay team (49.95),
Danisha Higgs in the 100 (12.64) and 200 (26.18) meter dashes, and
Taylor Kutz in the 400 meter dash (1:00.57).
For the men's team, who currently sit in sixth place with 21 points,
Justin Gewirtz earned first team all-conference honors after placing second in the high jump with his leap of 6-04.00.
Dane Canonico was also an all-conference earner in the shot put and discus with his throws of 45-04.25 and 130-06 respectively.
Finishing in 22nd place in the long 10,000 meter run was senior Eli Frey with his time of 35:57.40. The men's 4x800 relay team went on to place seventh in the event with their time of 8:49.74. Nicholas Hultz took 10th in the high jump with a 5-08.00 final jump.
Andrew Hettinger placed eighth overall in the discus with a throw of 124-04. Fellow thrower Steffen Gonzalez also finished in eighth place in the shot put with his final toss of 42-04.75. The men's 4x100 relay team finished in ninth place with a time of 45.95.
Sean Potter took 14th place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.35, while junior
George Cook crossed the finish line in 17th place with a time of 2:02.65.
Potter would then narrowly miss out on the program record in the 200 meter dash as he finished in 10th place with a time of 22.93, missing the mark by 53-hundredths of a second.
On the women's side of Saturday's meet,
Kim Hummel finished in ninth place in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 12:50.57. As the Lady Lions lone thrower,
Christine Pallas finished in 20th place in the shot put with her final throw of 30-04.75.
Distance runner
Caroline Vazzana crossed the finish line in 15th place in the 800 meter run with her time of 2:31.90. Kutz would earn a 10th place time in the 200 meter dash with a final time of 26.84. Right behind her was
Shannon Loos in 11th place with a time of 26.98. Meghan Loss earned a final time of 27.58 to finish in 16th place. Women's track currently sits in eighth place overall with a total of 12 points.
Track and Field will compete in the final day of the 2011 conference championship meet tomorrow.
