Results

OBERLIN, Ohio –
Behind Lauren Butler's runner-up finish in the shot put and Kristen Collins' third-place effort in the discus, the Allegheny women's track and field team is five points out of second place with one day remaining at the 2011 NCAC Outdoor Championships.

Butler lost a tight battle against Ohio Wesleyan junior Hannah Philpot in the shot. Butler threw 38'6” but closed three-quarters of one inch behind Phlipot for the conference title. Rookie Tova Feinberg finished fifth overall in the event (33'11.5”) while Collins secured the final scoring spot with an eighth-place effort (31'8.75”).

Collins paced another outstanding team effort in the discus. Earning NCAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors, Collins delivered a monster personal record en route to third overall (112'). Butler finished seventh (98'2”) with Feinberg closing in eighth (91'8”).

The field crew did most of the heavy lifting during a rain-soaked opening day. Following a long delay because of severe thunderstorms, the Gators added to their point total while placing two runners in tomorrow's championship finals. Sophomore Kelly Gallagher took seventh in the 10,000-meter run (39:12.10) while senior Beth Muller (12.96) and Emily Norton (17.31) qualified for finals in the 100m and 100m hurdles, respectively. Muller authored the second-fastest time in the qualifier.

In addition to earning a spot in the finals of the hurdles with a seventh-place finish, Norton closed ninth overall in the long jump with a season-best leap of 15'7.75”.

The Gators sit in third place with a total of 31 points. Ohio Wesleyan has a commanding lead on the entire field (94) while Oberlin enters the last day of the championships in second with 36 points.
