Reading, Pa. (June 13, 2011) - The Middle Atlantic Conferences spring academic honor roll, which honors academic excellence by student-athletes contains 32 Alvernia student-athletes as announced by the conference office. The honor roll comprises those student-athletes of sophomore class standing or higher who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 (4.00 scale) or higher and completed the playing season in good standing. In total, 606 student-athletes were honores conference-wide.
Alvernia had seven honorees from both the baseball and women's lacrosse teams, six from the softball team, three from men's tennis and men's golf squads, two from the women's tennis and women's track and field teams and one student-athlete from the men's track and field and men's lacrosse teams.
The Alvernia Academic Honor Roll was highlighted by sophomore baseball player
Chris Ray (Exton, Pa./West Chester Henderson) who was also named the Commonwealth Player of the Year. Athletes honored on both the Academic Honor Roll and the Commonwealth First Team in addition to Ray are are from baseball
Leon Stimpson (Philadelphia, Pa./Malvern Prep) and from softball
Rhiannon Sorrentino (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) and
Miranda Peto (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville). Athletes honored on both the Academic Honor Roll and the Commonwealth Second Team are from baseball
Reid Martin (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) and from women's lacrosse
Alyssa Verrillo (North Wales, Pa./Archbishop Wood).
