The Warrior Twilight Tune Up Invitational (3k) is a staple season-opener meet for a ton of Central PA schools every year, and this year is no exception. With just over 1200 total entries in this meet, there are 14 scheduled races this evening, with 8 on the boys' side and 6 on the girls' side.
Last year, this meet saw Travis Furmanski, the eventual 3A boys state champ, open his season with a blazing 8:43 on the grass, so we know the meet is fast and brings in tons of talent.
Some of the top entries this year consist of Liam Hodge, who ran 9:06 last year and placed 7th overall. Ryne Coble, who ran 9:16 last year for a 17th-place finish and holds a pr of 15:59 over 5,000m on the grass. The boys' side has 23 athletes seeded under 9:30 this year, and I'm sure we will see a few sub-9-minute performances tonight.
To switch things over to the girls' side of things, there are 10 athletes seeded under 11 minutes, with the top seed being Julia Leady, who ran 10:10 last year and finished 2nd overall. Ruby Garner-Valle also returns to the meet from last year, as she finished 3rd overall in 10:13. Could we see a girl go under 10 minutes on the grass in a 3k? I think any of the top 4 seeds in the race have a chance, and I'm sure it will be fast and competitive race in the top heats of both the boys and girls races.
