GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's cross country team completed its final regular season meet on Saturday morning with a third-place team finish at the 6K Gettysburg Invitational while resting some of its primary runners in advance of next week's PSAC Championships.
Senior
Sarah Strayer was SU's top finisher after placing ninth with a time of 24:29.45. Strayer was not able to compete at Kutztown's Division II Challenge earlier this season and was running in her third race of the season.
Sophomore
Patty Reis, who ran unattached and competed in a meet for the first time this season, was dominant in her return and finished third overall with a time of 23:56.66. She will be a candidate to compete for Shippensburg next weekend at Lock Haven.
Freshman Katy Perry posted a Top 20 finish with a solid time of 24:44.28. Fellow freshman
April Schlusser rounded out the Top 25 with a time of 25:02.51.
The other scorers were junior
Katie Wiechelt, who posted a time of 25:04.60, and redshirt freshman
Heather Weiss, who placed 37th in 25:20.37. Weiss and sophomore
Laura Antinucci improved their season PRs in the 6K by 15 seconds.
Shippensburg will be seeking its fourth consecutive PSAC championship next weekend when it runs from Lock Haven. The meet was originally scheduled for Mansfield but moved to due excessive rainfall affecting the conditions of the original course.
