Women's XC Delivers Strong Effort in NCAC Championship Tune-Up

OBERLIN, Ohio – Allegheny women's cross country is hoping to build on Saturday's performance at the 2011 Inter-Regional Rumble hosted by Oberlin as it prepares for the NCAC Championships in two weeks. The Gators, who have battled injuries throughout the campaign, was in line for a top 10 finish, although a large gap between the team's number four and five runners resulted in a 15th-place finish out of 34 teams.

Sophomore Kristina Martin paced the Blue and Gold as she has all season. The second year star closed 12th on the individual board with a time of 22:55.1. Her finish was the fourth-best among NCAC runners, while host Oberlin cruised to Saturday's team title.

Rookie Andy Sharfman finished second for Allegheny after sprinting through the chute in 23:50.2. She finished 51st overall out of 282 runners. Junior Kelly Gallagher (24:28.6) returned to action for the Gators and crossed just ahead of senior teammate Amber Wetzel (24:34.8). Suzanna Kearns capped the team scoring for the Gators after completing the 6k circuit in 28:30.6.

Allegheny finished sixth out of the competing schools from the North Coast Athletic Conference, although the team was embroiled in a close battle with Ohio Wesleyan (9th), Kenyon (13th), and Wittenberg (14th), setting the stage for a tremendous conference meet in two weeks.
