SPRINGFIELD, Ohio –
Allegheny women's cross country finished sixth at the 2011 North Coast Athletic Conference (NCAC) Championships. Sophomore Kristina Martin earned First Team All-Conference accolades after finishing fourth overall in the 6k run.

Martin split 22:45.9 and was part of a young contingent that dominated the championship landscape. She secured the top spot for the Gators while junior Kelly Gallagher finished 15th overall in 23:34.9.

“Today's race was a really big break though for Kelly, and she looked good as she continues to return from injury,” said head coach Brent Wilkerson. “Kristina did what she needed to early on to be part of the lead group, and we're happy with the effort we received from our top runners.”

Allegheny's third finisher was rookie Andy Sharfman, who crossed in 24:19 to finish 31st. Senior Amber Wetzel closed just behind Sharfman in 35th (24:28) while sophomore Suzanna Kearns capped the scoring for the Blue and Gold.
The Gators, which have been ravaged by injuries all season, are not far from regaining the form that resulted in a near team-title at the 2010 NCAC Championships.

“We continue to battle, but the injuries and illness have kept us from reaching our potential,” continued Wilkerson. “Sara Mitrano's presence alone could have signaled a huge point swing, but we're focused on building on this experience and gearing up for a strong track season.”

Oberlin placed all five of its runners in the top 10 en route to the team crown while Ohio Wesleyan finished second. NCAC newcomer DePauw closed third in the team standings.
