CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – Sophomore
Kristina Martin led an inspiring effort for the Allegheny women's cross country team at the 2011 NCAA Division III Mid-East Regional Championships hosted by DeSales University. Hampered by an injury-plagued season, the Gators youth-laden squad authored a strong performance to end the year by finishing 10th out of 47 competing schools.
Martin paced the Gators by finishing 15th overall in a time of 23:37. Junior
Kelly Gallagher also pieced together a terrific race. The third-year harrier continued her resurgence by covering the 6k circuit in 23:55 en route to 27th place in the individual standings.
For the second consecutive year, both Martin and Gallagher earned All-Region honors for their performances, while Martin is in the running for an individual at-large berth to the NCAA Division III Championships.
Senior
Amber Wetzel capped her collegiate cross country career by finishing 58th in a field of 324 runners while clocking 24:42. Freshman
Andy Sharfman finished 84th overall (25:09) while sophomore
Suzanna Kearns (27:49) closed out the Gators' contingent.
